5 Ways To Jumpstart Your Life

January 2, 2017 By Lynn Bryson 4 Comments

Happy New Year!

Have you written down your New Year’s resolutions yet? Chances are, a few of them are repeats from last year. Am I right?

That’ ok. Let’s look towards the future! Today is a new day, we’ve just started a new year and I’m going to give you the tools you need to make this 2017’s resolutions (and last year’s roll-overs) a reality.

This much I know… you can have all the dreams and wishes you want, but if you don’t have the tools to make them happen (plus some gumption!), you won’t get very far.

First things first. Declutter! You don’t have space for anything new and improved unless you get rid of what isn’t working for you. You can’t lose weight with a pantry full of junk food. You can’t climb the ladder at work if you’re overwhelmed with petty tasks. You can’t carve out time to take up a new hobby if you’re already dedicated to 15 other things in a given week. Declutter! Get rid of anything and everything that didn’t give you the results you wanted in 2016. Hint: Those PTA meetings didn’t help you make time for that painting class you’d wanted to take.

Have a clear vision. Saying “I’d like to lose weight.” is a BIG goal setting no-no. Say this instead: “I’d like to lose 10 lbs. by March 1st by working out 5 days a week, limiting my calorie intake to ______ and drinking a green smoothie for breakfast instead of coffee.”  Now THAT is a goal you’re going to reach!

Be aware of each moment. What you do in this moment determines the next. Each and every moment is a catalyst to the future. To reach a goal, this moment has to be a stepping stone. This requires living in the moment- not the past. When you don’t hone in on the reality that one moment determines to next, things slip away. Goals go unmet. Resolutions go undone. Let this moment propel you into the next moment.

I’ve already mentioned that you need to make time. Now you need to schedule it. Scheduling time for the tasks that are going to make your resolutions come true is very important. Then, once you schedule time, keep your appointment. Don’t cancel on your goals.

Finally, write down your goals daily. Every. Single. Day. Have you ever looked back at the past year’s resolutions and thought “I forgot I wanted to do that.”? Writing down your goals and looking at them once a year won’t give you the results you’re looking for. To be committed you have to remind yourself what you’re committing to. Daily!

Now tell me… What is your number one goal this year and how are you going to make it happen?

My main goal is to finish a course I am taking and use those skills to create the mindset I want. I plan on having the course finished by April 30 and I am working on it a little each day.

My goal this year is to get a promotion. To reach that goal I’m going to write it down in my journal every day and make it my focus.
