An arrogant heart brings strife and conflict. A humble heart prospers.
What’s the difference between these two? An arrogant heart is constantly in battle, fighting for its position. A humble heart is at ease with itself and does not cause any grief.
We live in a world today where arrogance is viewed as power and power is viewed as success. At the same time, humility is seen as weakness and despised by those who want to be in complete control of their lives.
Pride and arrogance are just that. They are brought on by the fear of losing it all. Fear is the sole and total force behind these two characteristics. Think of how arrogant people act. They tell people about their successes (fear of not being enough), they brag about having nice things (fear of being inadequate), they talk as if they own the room (fear of being overshadowed), they act as though they are better than others (fear of being devalued) and they talk about their wealth (fear of never having enough).
Some people feel that they must be arrogant or have a big ego in order to get where they want to in life. But the truth is that arrogance is a hard stance to keep up all the time. It can be exhausting and can lead to other undesirable traits like anger, crudeness, harshness, neediness and dishonesty. With arrogance you are always fighting against your fear.
A trusting heart is a much more desirable trait and one that people are drawn to. A trusting heart has many loyal friends. There is no anger or rudeness, just love, kindness, sincerity, confidence, true commitment, reliability, etc. When you live life with humility people always know where they stand with you. They feel comfortable around you and your life blossoms and grows.
Which one are you? It’s a hard question but one worth thinking about.
