Are You Ready To Let Go?

February 23, 2015 By Lynn Bryson Leave a Comment

We spend so much of our time and energy focusing on how to grow, have more money, more freedom and do more of the things we want to do. We are constantly looking for that open door that leads us to all of the things we dream our lives to be when in fact that door is right in front of us.

So what’s stopping us from walking through it? I believe it’s the size of the door compared to the amount of baggage we are trying to carry through it. The standard 32″ door opening has been big enough for all of the people who have come before us. How did they get through? And why can’t we take our baggage with us?

It’s what’s in all of these bags that matters, or rather, that doesn’t matter. Many of us have become comfortable with our struggles- stuffing them into bags to carry along with us. But when a new door opens for us we have to leave behind what won’t fit through it. To accomplish the growth and freedom we want in our lives we have to reach for it. How high can we reach with bags weighing us down? Not high at all. And how far can we get if we can’t even walk through the door? Nowhere.

It’s hard to let go of all of these things we’ve carried for so long. I know. I’ve held onto baggage too. It’s easier to do the same thing every day – whether we enjoy it or not- than to wake up and decide to change. I’m sure you could -as well as I could- list hundreds and hundreds of struggles you have faced over the years. We work through some of them and move on. Others we carry with us every day just ignoring the fact that these struggles are heavy burdens and they keep us stuck; stuck on the wrong side of an open door that we so desperately want and need to walk through.

In reality carrying our baggage or making the decision to leave it behind are both difficult decisions to act on. Trying to fit our baggage through the door is equally as difficult as setting it down.

Make a list of one piece of baggage you need to let go of. What closure do you need to be released of? Take action to get your closure. Work on your closure until you are able to drop that bag and leave it behind.

An open door is waiting.
