Become The Happiest Person You Know

June 20, 2016 By Lynn Bryson 2 Comments

I’m excited to be writing about happiness again today, because I know this topic resonates with so many of you.

Happiness is what everyone wants, but to be the happiest person you know, now that’s something extra special to strive for!

Being the happiest person you know is about much more than wearing a big smile on your face. It’s about being fulfilled and emptying your life of things that don’t serve you, like grudges.

Let’s talk about turning you into the happiest person you know.

Find joy in lots and lots of little things. People who are happy, view all the little things as joyous. They walk to the mailbox with a sense of happiness, they find pleasure in preparing for the day ahead, they choose joy while they’re working. Everything they do in life they do with a heart of happiness.

Stay in the moment. The present moment is the most valuable thing you have. But we’re always looking forward to another moment in time. This comes from not being happy right now. You sit in your office daydreaming about the weekend. You wake up in the morning and wish it was already the end of the day. Because life is more stressful than happy for many people, they can’t stay in the moment, because the present isn’t what they want it to be. Find something positive about the present moment and make that your focus.

See disappointment as opportunity. Happy people don’t hold onto disappointment. In fact, disappointment is more often seen as an opportunity to fill that void with something else. Or, it’s a big sign that it wasn’t meant to be. The loss of one opportunity makes room for another one.

Use fear as a compass. When you harness the power of fear it has the ability to propel you out of your comfort zone. Many people see fear as a bad thing, and yes, letting fear control your life is not the kind of living God wants for you. But, when you listen to your fear and go towards it vs. running from it, your life will dramatically change- for the good!

Let go of grudges. Holding a grudge does nothing but affect your state of happiness. It doesn’t change the past. It doesn’t protect you from getting hurt again. It eats away at your joy and fills your mind with hateful thoughts that poison your emotional wellbeing. If you want to be the happiest person you know you have to let go of grudges.

Be grateful. Gratitude is something I talk about often. The power of gratitude has the ability to wash away all negativity. Each moment you find yourself leaning towards unhappiness, redirect your thoughts with your go-to mental list of what you’re grateful for.

Being grateful, along with these other 5 practices will get you that much closer to being the happiest person you know! #smallsteps

Staying in the moments is especially hard for me. My life is like a tornado all day every day! But I am oh-so-grateful.
