“Are you pregnant?”
TD Jakes asked this question to an audience of men and women, and I thought it was brilliant.
A teacher has to teach.
A writer has to write.
A designer must design.
A dancer must dance.
A heart full of compassion must nurse, rescue or assist.
A scientist must discover.
We are all pregnant with something inside of us that needs to be birthed. If you are living your dream every day and working within your passion, praises to you! Congratulations!
If you’re not, its time you get started!
It’s time to birth our passions. The culture is shifting. Do you feel it? The world is searching for the unique and the exceptional. We are tired of mass productions. The world wants what you have to offer; in your own exceptional and unique way.
There are four mistakes that keep you from finding your true life’s passion.
1. Holding on to the next best thing.
Settling for “close enough” keeps you from doing what you really want to do in life. For one woman, a nanny job is the next best thing to becoming a teacher. Mistake number one is settling.
Take, for example, a woman who loves working with kids. She takes a nanny job to fulfill that passion. It’s a steady job that pays well enough and she has no complaints. She’s found what she believes is a good substitute for her true passion, teaching.
2. Ignoring what aggravates us.
Did you know that your pet peeves can lead you to your greater calling? Your inability to put up with anything less than perfection is a sign that you are passionate. For instance, someone else may not give a second thought to (or even notice) a poorly designed parking lot, but you can’t get it out of your mind. “If only they had __________” or “they really should have __________”. That’s a sign of passion!
3. Following someone else’s lead.
How many times have we heard an actor say “well, my parents really wanted me to be a doctor.”? We hear it all the time! They would have been miserable of they followed their parents’ ideas of who they should have been. Instead, they set out on their own path.
4. The “anything else” mistake.
When you step out in a new direction you have to know which direction that is. Don’t let yourself choose from the lesser of two evils. Go in the direction of your dreams.
Stop right there! Going from a job you despise to anything else doesn’t lead you to your passion. You’ll be right back where you started in no time… hating your job; wishing you could do anything else with your life.
Do you hate your job? Have you thought to yourself “I want to do something else. I’ll to ANYTHING else.”
When you’re faced with a life change it’s easy to settle because anything looks better than what you’re doing right now. Doing any of the four above will keep you from finding your true passion.
