Are you taking time for rest? My guess is that many of you aren’t.
We are one of the most overworked, stressed, and unhappy countries in the world. It’s safe to say that rest is at the bottom of most people’s lists.
Americans are already not getting enough sleep or downtime, then we add technology to the mix and we’ve got a double-whammy of non-restful activity.
A survey done of employees who communicate mainly through email showed that 50% check their emails on weekends, over 45% check their emails on sick days and over 30% check their emails while on vacation. Vacation!
Even when they’re on the sandy beaches of Hawaii more than 30% of vacationers are connected to their jobs.
So when is everyone taking time for rest?
Take, for a moment, the idea of giving yourself permission to rest. Permission to turn your phone off, close your laptop, turn off the TV and rest without distractions.
You see, there’s a difference between lying on the couch watching TV and sitting out in nature with a good book. Some people don’t realize this and they opt for noisy TV over peace and quiet- thus not really resting at all.
Even when it feels impossible to get some quiet time you must give yourself permission to take it.
Rest is free. It’s not something you have to pay for. Its medicine for the soul and has the power to add quality of living to your life.
Rest doesn’t have to look picture perfect. You don’t have to be curled up in a robe with an expresso and a latest best seller in hand. Rest can look however you want it to, just as long as that doesn’t include noise, commotion or stress.
So go take some time to rest, right now, while you have some time. #smallsteps
What will you do for you today?? Comment below. We want to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I choose today to rest by continuously praying to GOD! I need some peace of mind . I have so much stress right now . Please pray for me lynn ! And my son Blake and daughter samanatha !
Great post! I need rest and I’m going to give myself permission to get some!!
Between work, kids, school, soccer, ballet practice, homework, errands… The most I get to do for myself in a day is grab a cup of my favorite coffee on my way to work. Not much time for anything more. But if there were I’d have my nose stuck in a good book 🙂
Same here!
The best way I could have started my morning today! 🙂 Today after work I’m going to go to the park… all by myself… and just sit. That’s what I’m going to do for me today!
Would love to be as relaxed as that dog right now ????
I’m taking no time for rest right now. Not real rest anyway. Getting lost on Pinterest doesn’t really revive me like real rest would. ????
It’s a crazy world we live in! So much to do so little time!
I feel very lucky to have downtime nearly every day under my shade tree with a good book. I look forward to it!
i feel like I’d be taking away from my family if I took alone time. guess that’s the point of this blog. lol. to get rid of that idea and just do it!
