Has Your Brain Had Enough?

May 9, 2016 By Lynn Bryson 3 Comments

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Have you ever heard of decision fatigue? If you haven’t then you also probably don’t know that the more decisions we make in a day the less likely we are to make good ones. So once your brain has had enough you’re better off making zero decisions the rest of the day.

But that’s not how life works! We have to make decisions day in and day out!

However, when it comes to being productive, less is more. When your brain is full to the brim there’s no room for mapping everything out. It all just becomes one big blob of hectic mess.

What if I told you (you’re going to love this) that doing less is actually better for you?

Do you think you’re a good multitasker? Think again. There’s no such thing! And if you think you’ve been multitasking your decision making that’s a double no. Sorry to break it to you.

One thing at a time. That’s how you’re going to make it through this thing called life.

It’s time to take a BIG step back and prioritize. What really needs your attention? What can wait till tomorrow, next week or next month when it’s actually important? Who deserves your attention and who doesn’t? Again, decisions, decisions, decisions. But it’s time for you to make a decision about all of this daily decision making.

Your spreading yourself too thin. You’re draining all of your energy on unnecessary things.

Here’s how you need to start each new day. With decisions… go figure.

Make a list of all your must-dos for the day. Place them in order from the first one you’ll need to make that day to the last one you need to make before you go to sleep that night.

Limit yourself to these major decisions and whatever comes up that doesn’t require or deserve your brain’s brain power, don’t give it space in your mind. This of course excludes emergencies and big unaccounted for decisions that need your attention at a moment’s notice.

Yes, it really is as simple as that. What that list does is keep you in check. It holds you accountable. And as time goes on you’ll get better and better at making only the decisions you need to.

Share your good results below. We’d love to hear and encourage you on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I’ve had decision fatigue for the last 15 years. 😉 I used to think I was a pro at multitasking, but it turns out that I’m not and like you said… there’s no such thing as multitasking. Boy… this is a hard one. I’ve got to start somewhere. List-making is one of my favorite things. I’m going to take your advice.
