Need something that will help you improve your life, your finances and relationships?
Begin with stopping the negative self-talk. People always tell me they don’t know where to start and many of them stay stuck right there.
Speaking these words to yourself will keep you stuck in that space just before the starting line. You are here reading this for a reason. Let this be your permission slip! You have permission to move forward- to begin!!
Don’t know where to begin? Search the internet, read books, read my blog, email me. Find someone who is doing what you want to do and use them as an example to follow. But don’t ever again say “I don’t know where to start” because that is a lie you are telling yourself as an excuse for not taking the first step.
What you’re really feeling is this… “I’m afraid. If I fail someone will judge me or laugh at me. I’ve never been good at anything.” You believe these to be true, but they are lies too. They were told to us, then we repeated them over and over to ourselves. You have to stop the negative self-talk. It will KEEP you stuck.
Here are 3 steps you can take today to improve your life, your finances and relationships.
1. Stop the negative self-talk. Give yourself the freedom to be at peace with yourself.
2. Meditate. Meditation is not worship to other gods as the Christian world sees it. Meditation is a type of exercise. It is extremely helpful to your body. Just sit somewhere quietly and listen to your breathing for 15-20 minutes every day. Let the thoughts flow. The thoughts will move along if you ignore them.
Sleeping for 6 hours without waking up is one fantastic result I have seen in my life since I began meditating. For 20 years I have only been able to sleep 3 hours at a time, followed by being wide awake and turning to melatonin or another sleep aid to help me get in a couple more hours. Every night! For 20 years! If 20 minutes of quieting my brain can help me sleep 6 hours straight — I’m all in. Plus, just like me, you’ll see many other positives in your life.
3. Pray. Ask God what His plan is for your life. Ask Him to lead you out of this poverty mindset and show you a prosperous future.
Maybe you aren’t used to praying. Maybe you are used to listening to others pray and you feel you don’t know how to pray. It’s just like a baby taking its first step. Begin small. “Dear Father, God, Jesus, Savior” – whatever feels best. “I need your help.” And then just talk as if you are talking to your best friend. You don’t have to be formal or perfect with your words. Just talk. You can even mess up what you mean and start the sentence over. God is your friend and your help in time of need. Stop being hard on yourself. There is no perfect way to pray. Preachers have just had a lot of practice.
It’s time to stop listening to the lie that you need to “clean up” some stuff in your life before you can pray to a holy God. Forget about it!! God wants to listen to you right now. Just like you are. Imperfections are His specialty. He loves us at all times with all our warts. He yearns to communicate, to be our friend, our confidant. He does not want us to “clean up” first. And He does not want polished prayers.
We tend to think prayer is what good people do when they are doing their best. When they can be thankful and cheerful. That’s not what prayer is.
We tend to think prayers are some flowery words that should be memorized and regurgitated. They are not.
Prayer is when we bow our head and get honest with God. When we speak from our heart- the good, the bad and the ugly. Even a small child can communicate with God without finding a “prayer language.” It’s that simple my friend.
If you’d like to read some prayers from hundreds of years ago, read The Book of Psalms in the bible. You will find lots of prayers written by imperfect people.
NOW, you have a plan. A great place to start and tomorrow will bring more ideas because you are going to continue to do all 3 steps each day. Make them a habit and they will change your life. That’s a promise!
