Are you ready to live a life of success? Are you ready to fulfill all of your dreams? Are you ready for happiness? Then start with these two things.
Define what success means to you. Or, better yet, define what happiness means to you.
The way you define success should also be the way you define happiness. When people don’t define the two the same they reach all their set goals, but are left wondering why they aren’t happy.
Defining success is the same as defining happiness. They are directly connected to each other.
Arianna Huffington’s book Thrive talks about the corporate ladder climbing view of success that so many people have. If you don’t define success for yourself you’re going to be at risk of living an unfulfilling life focused on all the wrong things (such as climbing a corporate ladder you don’t want to climb), or possibly, a life with no focus at all.
The first step towards reaching a goal is defining what that goal is. Imagine an athlete who just goes out on the field and tosses the ball around to his teammates without setting a goal to win the game. He’d be off the team pretty quickly because his lack of focus would directly affect the team’s outcome.
Maybe success to you is working 4 days a week instead of 5.
Or maybe success is taking a month off at the end of the year.
Perhaps you do want to climb the corporate ladder and reaching the top is your ultimate goal. You’ll work 100 hours a week if you have to.
Maybe none of those sound like success to you. Maybe success is working an hour a day without sacrificing your salary.
Whatever success is to you, define it by what happiness also means to you.
Know that you deserve to be happy.
The struggles that so many people are faced with on the road to success lead the majority to think that the path must be hard because they don’t deserve to reach the finish line.
People think, “If it doesn’t come easy then I must not deserve it.”
It’s your life. You get to decide what’s going to make you happy. But you also have to work hard for what you want.
You absolutely deserve to be happy so don’t mistake the struggles as a sign that you’re undeserving.
I’ve been on a 20 year journey to find success. It’s a long hard road.
Keep on reaching for your dreams and don’t give up! You can do it!
Yes yes yes!!! Success and happiness are directly connected. When you’re happy and grateful success will come!!
To me happiness is having freedom from a 9-5 job, enjoying the quiet moments in life and spending time with the people I love.
“Whatever success is to you, define it by what happiness also means to you.” is my favorite line <3 How perfect!
