Meditation: The Practice That Has Changed My Life

June 13, 2016 By Lynn Bryson 5 Comments

I’ve talked to you before about how meditation has changed my life. Not only does it give me an overall sense of peace, it has also helped me get a better night’s sleep (I can’t stress to you enough how HUGE that is).

Does the idea of meditating make you feel uncomfortable? If so, I want to share with you a few meditation facts that I hope will help settle your uneasiness, plus the book that will answer ALL of your questions.

Meditation is a tool to help train your mind. To keep your mind from running all over the place while you’re meditating, you use mantras. They are short phrases that you repeat to help bring your mind back to a quiet place when it wants to think about the grocery list, what you’re cooking for dinner, who’s picking up the kids, and so on. By sitting in a comfortable position with eyes closed (much like prayer) you’re able to be at peace and train your mind to be at peace with you.

Anyone can meditate, but you have to want to. A lot of people say that they just can’t sit still that long or that their minds just won’t turn off. Tell me… do you think you could do a perfect handstand on your first try? No! It takes practice to master something new.

While you’re learning to meditate you should start by sitting in a quiet room, but as you become better and better at meditation you’ll be able to use it anywhere- on the bus, while you’re walking the dog and during your lunch break while you eat. Anywhere! Because it’s a state of being, not an action.

If you’re up in the air about whether meditation can help change your life you need to read Russell Simmon’s book Success Through Stillness: Meditation Made Simple. This book will answer all of your questions and put you on track for a more peaceful existence. And if you are still on the fence about if meditation is “right” or not make sure you don’t skip Russell’s Chapter 6, God Doesn’t Want Me Meditating (or does He).

Meditation can change your life. Trust me, it has changed mine.
