While some people thrive under pressure, others don’t feel energized by the same situations. If you don’t perform well under pressure, here are some tips that will help you.
- Focus on the task at hand.
When we’re stressed we tend to focus on the stressors instead of the task at hand. Stay honed in on what you need to accomplish.
- Take control.
In a pressure moment, there are factors you have control over and factors you don’t.
When you focus on those “uncontrollables,” you end up intensifying the pressure, increasing your anxiety, and undermining your confidence. What you want to do is focus on the factors you can control.
- Don’t forget your past successes.
Remembering your past success ignites confidence. You did it before, you can do it again!
Once you’re feeling good about yourself, you’ll be better able to reduce anxiety and take care of the task at hand.
- Stay self-aware.
When you’re under deadline and the world feels like it’s crashing in, you’re particularly prone to making careless errors.
Focus on the here and now. Tune into your senses. By doing this, you’re able to distract yourself from your anxiety. Plus, this trick is extremely easy to put into practice.
- Have a routine.
Create a brief routine that you go through in the minutes before you are about to be in a stressful situation. Listen to music. Focus on your breathing. Close your eyes for a minute if you can.
