How To Be Resilient When Faced With Struggles

February 27, 2017 By Lynn Bryson Leave a Comment

Resilient people not only bounce back from struggles, they also grow stronger as a result of their experiences. They find new meaning in life and don’t see bumps in the road as downfalls, but instead they see them as opportunities for growth and greater self-awareness.

Being resilient doesn’t mean that you’ll face fewer difficulties. Being resilient doesn’t mean that things will bounce off of you or avoid you altogether. But instead, being resilient is about not letting all of life’s upsets define you (because you will have upsets, struggles, difficulties, etc.).

The foundation of resilience is belief. Resilient people believe that they have the power to overcome what is in front of them. They believe you can find positives within every negative.

How do you become resilient?

It’s about training your brain to be optimistic rather than pessimistic. It’s about being positive so that you’re better able to lift yourself up off the ground when you get knocked down. Becoming more resilient is as simple as teaching yourself to be confident in what you’re able to withstand.

When you’re faced with a setback ask yourself these questions:

What is this here to teach me? What can you learn from this experience?

Why is this happening now? Ask yourself why this struggle has come into your life at this particular time. What do you need to learn RIGHT NOW.

What positive change can this create for me? Find the positive. How can you turn this negative (possibly even devastating) struggle into positive growth?

Resilience is about a lot more than bouncing back. It’s about living life with a positive outlook. It’s about looking at challenges as opportunities for growth. It’s about responding to life in a constructive way. We’re all faced with challenges -big and small-, but it’s how we respond to those challenges that makes us resilient.

I’d love to hear from you in the comments. What have you gone through that has made you more resilient?
