Last year (I can’t believe it’s been a year already!) I declared that I was taking a year off. During the last 12 months I’ve learned a lot about myself, my relationships and life in general. And I’ve come to realize that these things can’t be understood when you’re traveling through life at 100 miles an hour.
Here’s what I learned…
Everything that seems urgent is not.
Someone else’s procrastination is not my emergency.
The word “no” can be said in a loving way.
Time works most things out.
Slowing down does not mean that I’m lazy.
Spontaneity is the result of a de-stressed life and is a fun mantra to adopt.
Clutter causes anxiety and de-cluttering de-stresses me.
Inspiration is real… you just need a clutter free mind to see it.
Slowing down clears my head for the important things.
Change is possible.
Excuses keep us stuck.
Organizing is a gift to myself, and reminds me that I love me.
Living to please is a disease.
When doing the unexpected I even surprised myself.
Time alone is healing.
Downtime is essential.
It’s okay to daydream. We don’t do it enough!
More time to think means more time to plan an exciting future.
The more you care for yourself the better you can help care for others.
As I slide into year two I have a new healthier mindset, not perfect, but new. We’ve become a society that glorifies busyness and I can say from experience that busyness does not equal happiness. A joy filled life comes from taking time for the small things and allowing time to work out the tough things.
You’d be amazed at how much time can teach you if only given the chance.
