Why We Need Loving Relationships

March 7, 2016 By Lynn Bryson 5 Comments

When it comes to relationships we are all hard wired to want them. Some feel like they don’t need people in their life, but the truth is it’s a part of the way we are made- to want to have relationships.

Meaningful relationships exist between people who truly accept each other. We long for friendships that feel sturdy- that call out the best in us. We yearn for this kind of connection, where we are able to stand side by side with another person who understands us completely; a person who we can give ourselves to and share life and love with.

Not only do we benefit from receiving love, we also benefit from giving it. And sharing love with another person helps us heal insecurities, old fears and the emptiness of going through life alone. Support from those we care about does the same things for us.

Loneliness is a hard and unnecessary struggle. God has made us to give of our hearts, our energy, our joy, and trust to others. Sometimes it is hard to be open in our giving if we’ve been betrayed, but none the less we still have a need to have relationships.

The best way to build a relationship you can enjoy and trust is by being that person yourself. We get friends by being a friend. We build trust by trusting and by being trustworthy. Your God-given instincts are there to help you identify trustworthy and honest people to build lasting connections with. Sometimes it’s hard to recognize negative qualities in people, but you’ve been equipped with gut feelings that, if you listen to them, can guide you to rich, fulfilling relationships.

When you find a relationship that is worth giving of yourself to, then give freely of your time and energy, give your love, attention, encouragement, hope and appreciate what you have been given in this friend. Friendships are golden if they are true.
