Is your job less than thrilling? Is your marriage on the rocks? Are you struggling to raise your kids? Are you overwhelmed by caring for an elderly family member?
We all have struggles every day in some form or another, but when it becomes chronic it can begin to affect our health and well-being, and also our ability to handle life’s small mishaps.
It’s detrimental to your happiness to stay in a negative state of mind and it’s not fair to yourself or to those around you who love you.
I found myself in a negative space these past two weeks. My work was important, but was being interrupted and pushed off to the side. It was frustrating and I wanted to blame everyone and everything around me.
I began to read one of my all-time favorite books, The War on Art by Steven Pressfield. That book lead me to Turning Pro by Steven Pressfield, which lead me to Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, which lead to Oprah’s Lifeclass with Deepak Chopra and TD Jakes. Okay, WOW, wake-up call!!
I can’t even list all the amazing things I learned by soaking up that good information but one thing that was plain to me was that I CANNOT blame anyone for the work I am not doing. I CANNOT blame anyone if I hate my work. I CANNOT blame anyone if I become physically ill because of the stress I’m taking on.
I am the ONLY one to blame. I have a free will to choose when I work and when I don’t work. I have a free will to walk away from a job that makes me sick and replace it with one that makes me happy.
I am not valuing myself if I allow others to make my life miserable and that was exactly what I was doing. I was allowing others to make me unhappy, miserable, physically sick and depressed. I was doing that! I was the one doing that!!
Love yourself enough to unplug one evening; one hour on Sunday if that’s all you have. Fill yourself up with GOOD thoughts, GOOD ideas, GOOD teachings.
You are loved. Your family loves you, and I hope you love you too. Don’t waste your life being miserable and doing things others want you to do. Do what you want to do and do what you know you should be doing. It’s time. You don’t need permission to do the things you’ve been wanting to do!!
Equip yourself with good thoughts and good teachings. It will get you through.
